Scanning the shipping label completes the order
Only confirming the label marks the order PACKED. Scanning can be disabled per warehouse. What to do if the label is unreadable.
After you scan the last item, the kiosk waits for a shipping-label scan. This is not a formality—only confirming the label closes the order lines and stamps the PACKED status in one operation, so there can be no state like “packed, but without the status.”
This step can be disabled, separately for the company and for an individual warehouse. In that case, the last product scan closes the order. See below: When label scanning is disabled.
A parcel that has been scanned and put in a carton but has no confirmed label is intentionally not considered packed—there is no way to ship it.
Step by step: closing an order
- Scan the last order item. The banner changes to Scan shipping label, and a yellow Expected shipping label field with the number appears below the list. Earlier, when the label is ready but items still need scanning, you see only the quiet Label ready line—the number and hold-to-enter field appear only after the last item.
- Take the parcel with the label attached and scan the shipping-label code.
- The kiosk responds Packed with the order number and returns to the station screen. For a basket of single-item orders, it instead starts the next order and the top-bar counter advances by one.
- If the label is unreadable, press and hold the yellow field briefly until the bar fills. The field itself explains: “Tap = copy · Hold = enter as scan.”
- If you need to enter the number manually, switch the kiosk to keyboard input with F2 and type it into the scan field. Hyphens and letter case do not matter.
- A refusal (“Shipping label does not match the expected one,” “Scanned code is not a shipping label”) means the code is not the right label—check that you are scanning the label for this parcel, not the one next to it.
Number matching is forgiving
The system normalizes letter case, hyphens, spaces, and underscores. For numbers longer than 10 characters, it also accepts one string appearing within the other. A number entered manually with hyphens will pass.
Unreadable label — two gestures
The yellow field with the expected number supports two gestures:
- Tap to copy the number to the clipboard.
- Press and hold briefly to enter the number as if it had been scanned.
The second gesture is a fallback for a label the scanner cannot read. It uses the same path as the scanner and bypasses no checks, so it cannot force through an order that is not ready.
When label scanning is disabled
Warehouses that pack directly from an attached label gain nothing from scanning it. You can therefore disable scanning under Settings → Warehouse → Packing → Order completion.
When scanning is disabled, the last product scan completes the order. The kiosk does not show the shipping-label field—it displays Packed immediately and returns to the station screen.
Nothing changes except the trigger. The same operation still does the same work as always: deducts stock from the warehouse, closes the order lines, releases the basket, and stamps PACKED.
Without a label, the order cannot close
This is a hard block in both modes. If the label has not yet been ordered from the carrier, the kiosk waits:
| Situation | What the kiosk does |
|---|---|
| Label ready when the last item is scanned | Completes the order immediately |
| Label is still being ordered | Waits; completes when the label comes back from the carrier |
| Carrier not recognized | Shows carrier-selection tiles; completes after selection |
The reason is simple: an order without a label is a parcel that was never ordered from a carrier. It cannot receive the PACKED status.
The label did not print
When scanning is disabled, there is no longer a moment when the operator picks up the label. If printing failed silently, nobody would notice. The kiosk therefore displays a large window that does not disappear by itself:
- the order number in large type,
- the carrier and tracking number,
- how many documents printed and how many were expected,
- a I’ve noted it — continue button.
You cannot close the window by clicking outside it or waiting. Take a moment to write down the number.
The order is packed, and the shipment is ordered from the carrier—the paper is the only missing piece. Reprint the label from the ⋮ menu and attach it to the parcel.
Company and warehouse settings
Under Settings → Warehouse → Packing (the Order completion tab), there are two fields:
- Complete by scanning shipping label—the setting for the entire company.
- An exceptions list. Its name describes what the listed warehouses do: with the switch on, these are Warehouses without shipping-label scan; with it off, they are Warehouses with shipping-label scan.
The list reverses the company setting; it does not merely turn it off. It works both ways:
| Company requires scan | Warehouse on list | Result at this warehouse |
|---|---|---|
| yes | no | scan required |
| yes | yes | not required |
| no | no | not required |
| no | yes | scan required |
This lets a company that has stopped requiring scans still require them at one warehouse, and vice versa.
By default, scanning is required. A company that has never opened these settings works exactly as before.
