Before sorting starts
Sorting starts only when five entry conditions are met. One message means “there is no work for you here”.
Sorting works on goods that an operator dropped at the sorting location after picking. For an EAN scan to open a task, all five conditions must be met.
| Condition | What it means |
|---|---|
| You are at a sorting location | The terminal must be switched to a sorting location, not just any location. |
| You have access to at least one queue | Without an assigned queue, there is nothing to sort. |
| There is stock at the location | Goods must have been dropped at the sorting location. |
| The item has completed picking | Goods still being picked are invisible to sorting. |
| The item’s queue uses manual mode | Items in automatic or skipped queues cannot be sorted manually. |
The last condition is the most surprising. If the queue profile has automatic or skipped sorting, a manual attempt is rejected with the queue number — this is a queue setting, not a failure.
Step by step: go to the sorting location
- Tap the mode name in the kiosk’s top bar and choose Sorting in the Change function window.
- Check where you are — the location code appears under the mode name and in the Where am I tile.
- If the screen says NOT A SORTING LOCATION (with the text “The current location is not a sorting location. Scan a sorting location”), scan the sorting location code. The kiosk will move you there and respond LOCATION CHANGED.
- Read the banner before picking anything up:
- AUTOMATIC SORTING with the hint “Switch to Move mode” — there is no work for you here (in the Change function window this mode is called Move);
- NO PRODUCTS TO SORT — nothing is at this location;
- Scan product EAN — you can work.
- To see what is here, expand Products to sort. The list loads only then, and its counter applies to this location.
- Scan the first item’s EAN and follow the two-scan flow: EAN, then location.
- A rejection with a queue number means the item comes from an automatically sorted or skipped queue — put it aside and take the next one.
“Go to transport”
If you have no manually sorted queue and at least one automatic queue, the screen says AUTOMATIC SORTING, “Switch to Move mode”. There is no work for you here — those queues are sorted automatically when the goods are dropped off.
Statistics on screen
“Remaining” counts items to sort in your queues and is reliable.
In practice, “Sorted” shows zero and is not suitable for measuring productivity. Every sorting operation creates a pair of stock movements — a minus at the source and a plus at the destination — and the counter sums both sides, so the result is zero. This is a known defect, not your mistake.
The products-to-sort list does not load with the screen — it loads only when expanded.
You scanned a location instead of a product
That is not an error. The system recognises the location code and simply moves you there.
