Automatic and skipped sorting
Three modes in a queue profile. In automatic mode, sorting happens when picked goods are dropped off, and manual attempts are rejected.
Sorting mode is a setting in the queue fulfilment profile, not an operator decision.
| Queue mode | What happens |
|---|---|
| Standard | You sort manually, one EAN at a time |
| Automatic | Sorting happens when picked goods are dropped into a basket |
| Skipped | There is no sorting phase; items are closed so the final stock state is correct |
In automatic mode, the drop does in one step what an operator normally does: it creates a stock movement, closes the sorting item, and sets the basket as the location for the packing item, so the order is ready for transport and packing.
Step by step
Check the queue mode
- Open the queue list (WMS Queue).
- Look at the Type column. Its badge says Standard, Auto-sort, or Pick from Cart, with the fulfilment profile name in grey below.
- Hover over the badge. The Sorting: row in the tooltip shows the exact mode: Manual sorting (EAN), Automatic sorting, or Skipped.
- To change it, open the queue, go to Settings, open the Picking configuration card, choose a value in Fulfilment profile, then select Save settings.
- In automatic mode, the field below is called Default sorting basket. In standard mode, it is called Default sorting location.
Drop goods in an automatic queue
- Open the
/wms2kiosk and Picking module. Pick as usual, scanning each item. - Go to the basket and scan its code. The banner turns yellow: VALID LOCATION, with the code and Put away picked items.
- Tap the large button at the bottom, Put in trolley (N), where N is the number of units on the carrier. (The label says “trolley”, but the destination must be a basket, a mobile location. A regular shelf will be rejected.)
- On success, a green PUT AWAY banner shows the location code and voice feedback says “Put away”. Sorting has now happened; there is no EAN to scan afterward.
- Refusals come in English directly from the server. The three most common are:
AUTO_SORT mode requires a basket (mobile location). Location CODE is not a basket.— you scanned a shelf instead of a basket. Go to a basket.Cannot mix STANDARD and AUTO_SORT queues in a single drop. Pick from one queue type at a time.— you are carrying goods from two queue types. Drop one group, then the other.Basket CODE already contains items with sorting mode STANDARD. Cannot drop AUTO_SORT items here.— this basket already contains items from a queue with another mode. Use a different basket.
Manual attempt in an automatic or skipped queue
- Open Sorting. If all your queues are automatic, the screen has no scan field. The banner says AUTOMATIC SORTING and Go to Move mode, and the center says “Automatic sorting — products are sorted when the basket is put away. Go to Move mode.”
- The tile referred to here is named Move in the Change function window. The banner uses the English name “Move”.
- If you also have standard queues, the screen looks normal, but scanning an EAN from an automatic or skipped queue ends with this red banner in English:
Queue 42 uses SKIP mode for sorting phase. The number is the queue number. - This banner does not disappear by itself; it stays until another message replaces it. Note the queue number and put the item away according to its mode instead of sorting it manually.
Automatic drop restrictions
- A basket is required. A drop to a non-mobile location is rejected.
- A single drop cannot mix standard and automatic queues.
- The basket cannot already contain items from a queue using another sorting mode.
Manual attempts are rejected
An attempt to manually sort an item from an automatic or skipped queue is refused with the queue number, both when scanning the EAN and when placing the item. This is a queue setting, not a failure.
Do not confuse this with the short flow using a remembered basket. That is still manual sorting, with one scan instead of two.
