Picking to a cart — sorting as you go
One order goes on one cart shelf. Sorting and transport are disabled because they happen as items are put away.
When picking to a cart, sorting happens as you go: you pick items and immediately place them on the cart shelf assigned to a specific order. That is why the queue profile has sorting and transport disabled — there is nothing to do afterwards.
One order goes on one shelf. A full cart is one with every shelf occupied.
The process
- Scan the cart — it is assigned to you.
- Scan products at successive locations.
- Scan the cart shelf where you are putting the items. The system records both picking and sorting immediately.
- Put the cart away at the drop-off location set in the queue — the button is called Return cart and shows the order count in parentheses.
At packing, you later scan the shelf, not the whole cart — this is the one mistake everyone makes once.
Why the cart cannot be taken
| Refusal | Meaning |
|---|---|
| This is not a cart | You scanned another location |
| You already have a cart | Put the previous one away first |
| Cart is in use | Another worker has it — you may take it over if you have permission |
| Cart is waiting for packing | It is already at a station and must not be taken |
| Cart has items to pick | It was abandoned with an unfinished order — confirm the takeover and finish it |
| Cart does not match your queues | Wrong cart subtype; take another |
| All matching queues are in use | One cart is for one queue; wait or take another cart |
| No work for this cart | This is not an error — there is nothing to pick right now |
Why the shelf will not accept the items
| Refusal | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Shelf does not belong to your cart | You scanned another cart’s shelf |
| Another order is already on this shelf | One shelf is for one order |
| This order is already on another shelf | Use that shelf to avoid splitting the order |
| Shelf is inactive / not a sorting shelf | This shelf cannot be used for drop-off |
| Single-compartment cart has no shelves | Do not scan a shelf; put the items on the cart body |
What to take from the next shelf
When a queue scenario has Expanded picking view enabled, the handheld shows what to take from the next shelf while you are on the way, and which shelf comes next when you arrive. Details: Expanded picking view.
Putting the cart away
Put the cart away at the location specified by the queue. If you are carrying orders from queues that use different drop-off stations, the system will refuse — one cart cannot be put away in two places at once.
You also cannot put away a cart with unfinished orders — finish picking first.
