Dashboard — what is not obvious at first glance
The exchange rate can silently default to one. Figures are cached. And the Dashboard itself can be opened through the API without report permission.
This article collects things the Dashboard does quietly. It starts with a procedure to check a figure before relying on it.
Step by step
Check whether a Dashboard figure means what you think it means
- Click Refresh on the Filters card. Otherwise you are looking at a result up to five minutes old, and the screen does not show when it was calculated.
- Check the Date range. It defaults to Last 7 days — if you wanted to see today, this is not that figure.
- Look at the label on the fourth tile. If it says Today (outside selected range), zero does not mean there were no sales; it means the tile falls outside the selected period.
- Check the Currency field. Switch it to the currency in which you actually sell the most. If amounts jump or do not change at all, exchange rates are probably missing.
- Check rates under Settings → System → Exchange rates: the Last update tile shows the date of the latest rate. If it is old, click Fetch ECB rates (… days) (Settings shared across the platform).
- For a financial decision, recalculate using the order list with the same date range and filter (Order list — what you see on screen). The Dashboard is for viewing; the list is for counting.
Recognise a demo screen from the template
- Ask yourself how you got there. Three screens — at
/dashboards/analytics,/dashboards/crm, and/dashboards/ecommerce— do not have menu entries. You can reach them only by typing or using a saved address. - They have no permission checks: anyone who is signed in can open them.
- You can recognise them because they have no Filters card or Refresh button, and the figures never change. These are hard-coded figures in the interface template, not your company’s data.
1. No rate means 1:1, silently
This is the screen’s most serious trap:
When an exchange rate is unavailable, the system assumes a 1.0 rate and continues. An order in zlotys will then be counted like an order in euros. The screen gives no indication of this.
As a result, revenue for sales in multiple currencies can be overstated or understated without any visible reason.
How to spot it: switch the target currency to the one in which you actually sell the most. If the figures change abruptly or do not change at all, rates are probably missing.
For financial decisions, verify the result in the order list, not on the Dashboard.
2. Figures are cached
Dashboard — 5 minutes. Live overview — 15 seconds. Logistics reports — 10 minutes.
A difference between the Dashboard and the order list over a short time window is normal. The refresh button forces recalculation.
3. The default period is 7 days, not today
Repeated deliberately because this causes the most questions (Dashboard — the first screen after signing in).
4. The “Today” tile may be marked as outside the range
When the selected range does not include today, the tile label changes to Today (outside selected range). A zero then means not that there were no sales, but that the tile is outside the selected period.
5. Menu access and data access are different
The Dashboard menu item requires dashboard report permission. But the mechanism that fetches its data checks only permission for the Orders module.
In practice: someone with access to orders can read the company’s aggregated sales data, even without report permission. Hiding the menu item does not secure financial data (Report permissions — two layers and four mismatches).
Keep this in mind when assigning roles to people who need to handle orders but should not see company results.
6. Three template dashboards that are not ours
The analytics, CRM, and e-commerce addresses contain demo screens from the interface template, with made-up figures hard-coded into them. They are not in the menu, but anyone who is signed in can open them.
If you reach one of these screens, the figures are not your company’s data. You can tell because they never change.
