Counting freezes a shelf
Starting a task blocks movement at the location. Closing or canceling the task always unlocks it—and the order states this explicitly.
Starting a task sets the “under review” flag on the location, and every warehouse movement checks that flag.
| Lock mode | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Full (default) | Every movement at the location—picking, packing, transfer, receipt—is rejected, with a message and task number. |
| Warning | Movement proceeds, but when the task is closed, the office gets a note that the stock may have changed. |
If the terminal refuses to pick goods and shows a task number, this is not a malfunction; a stock count is in progress. Use the number in the message to check who is counting and when they started.
Step by step
Operator: the terminal will not let me move goods from the shelf
- Read the banner. In Replenishment mode it says Location under stocktake, followed by: This shelf is being counted—you cannot pick from it right now.
- In other operations, you will see a server message with the location code and task number: Location 'CODE' is currently being inventoried #NUMBER.
- Do not scan again. Repeating the attempt will not remove the refusal, and every attempt is recorded in history.
- Write down the task number from the message and take another task.
- The shelf will unlock automatically when the task is closed or canceled.
Office: check whether and why the shelf is frozen
- Go to Warehouse and logistics → Stocktaking.
- Enter the location code in the Task number, location, notes… field.
- A row with the Under review badge is a shelf with its flag set.
- Click Open. On the Stocktaking review screen, an active count has the Location under review banner.
- Is there no task at that location, but stock still cannot be picked? The office set the flag; remove it using the procedure below.
Office: flag a shelf for checking and remove the flag
- Open Reports → Warehouse → Location explorer or, without leaving the stocktaking task, click the number in the WMS stock column on the Stocktaking review screen to expand the product’s location list.
- Click Flag for checking.
- Read the warning in the window: While this flag is set, goods cannot be issued from this location. Stocktaking will open only if an administrator has enabled the rule for office flags—in all other cases, remove the flag here once the shelf has been checked.
- Click Confirm.
- If the rule is enabled, the window displays Stocktaking opened at this location: {number}. If this sentence is absent, only a flag was created; no count was started.
- To remove the flag, click the same button, now labeled Remove flag. Removal will be rejected if a count is already in progress at that location; the flag then belongs to the task, and closing or canceling it will remove the flag.
The flag cannot outlive the count
The flag has two meanings: “stocktaking has frozen this shelf” or “someone asked for this shelf to be checked” (a picker during picking, or the office). Regardless of who set it, the task created to handle it removes it:
- Completed tasks always remove the flag; counting the shelf answers the request.
- Abandoned tasks—canceled or returned to the pool—also always remove the flag. A shelf cannot remain frozen without a task in the background. If the office still wants it checked, it must flag it again.
- The flag is not removed only while another count is in progress at that location.
- A flag for which no count was created (for example, because the rule was disabled) is removed automatically after 15 minutes. A cleanup job clears flags every quarter-hour from shelves without an active task.
The order says this explicitly
An order line receives the “Stocktake requested: <locations>” marker when the product is on a shelf being counted—even if the order is fully covered and nothing is missing.
This is an advance warning: the goods are formally in stock, but the warehouse cannot issue them until the count is finished.
