Catalog pitfalls
Four warehouse settings do nothing. Disabling a catalog hides nothing. Adding a price group can change completeness overnight.
Step by step
See for yourself what is missing from the catalog editor
This is the easiest way to confirm pitfall #1 before anyone relies on these settings for a process.
- Side menu → Catalog → Catalogs; select a catalog from the list.
- Open the Advanced tab. It contains Code, Description, Default variant family, and Active.
- WMS level, valuation method, reservations, and negative stock lock are not here and cannot be set. The editor does not send them when saving, so saved values remain untouched.
Add a price group without causing panic
The order matters: adding a price group immediately lowers completeness for every product in the catalog.
- Warn the team first—explain that the score will drop and this is not a data failure.
- Go to Catalog → Catalogs → select the catalog → Price groups tab.
- Choose a group in Add price group…. It appears in the list, but has not been sent to the server yet.
- Click Save. You will see Saved, and the count on the tab increases.
- Check the result: open Products, select this catalog, and look at the Result column. Clicking a circle opens Completeness; the Prices item shows which groups are missing.
- Fill in the prices. Use the Incomplete <80% filter to find unfinished products.
Until a catalog has at least one active price group, each product receives the full number of price points. The first group you add removes that free point for every product at once, which causes the sudden drop.
Remove a catalog language and understand the refusal
- Go to Catalog → Catalogs → select a catalog → Languages tab.
- Click the trash icon in a language row. It disappears from the screen only; nothing has been removed yet. The default language’s trash icon is gray.
- Click Save.
- If the language is in use, the editor displays a red box with the server message in English:
Cannot remove the language. There are translations in this language.
The message does not say which translations are involved (Catalog languages). Other changes from this save still go through normally.
Create a catalog and recognize a code already in use
- Click + above the catalog list.
- Enter a name in the header and, on the Advanced tab, a Code (for example, B2C_EU) and Default language.
- Click Save. Success is indicated by Saved and a new row in the list.
- A code that is already in use produces this server message in English:
A catalog with code 'CODE' already exists for this company
The code is unique within a company; another company may use the same one.
1. Four warehouse settings do nothing
The catalog data contains WMS level, valuation method (weighted average, FIFO, LIFO, and others), reservations, and negative stock lock.
The system does not read any of them. There is no business logic for these settings.
They are absent from the catalog editor and do not affect the behavior described above. Do not use them to plan a valuation method or negative stock policy.
2. Disabling a catalog hides nothing
The catalog’s active marker is only a label and list filter. Disabling a catalog does not hide its products, stop synchronization, or block anything.
3. Adding a price group lowers completeness for everyone
A price group assigned to a catalog counts toward the completeness score. Until products have prices in it, the score drops for everyone at once.
This looks like a sudden data failure but is a configuration effect. Warn the team when adding a price group (Price groups in a catalog).
4. Changing the default language does not rewrite names
Product and category names are copies of their default-language translations. Changing the default language does not refresh them retroactively; names stay in the old language until someone edits the translations.
Contact NOXTI support if the data needs repair.
5. Duplicate translations are silently merged
Adding another translation for the same product and language does not return an error; it overwrites the existing one. On import, the last row in the file wins, with no notice that it overwrote a value.
6. Catalog codes are unique only within a company
Two companies may have catalogs with the same code. Within one company, they may not.
7. Catalog languages are not system languages
The language list comes from company settings. The separate “catalog languages” address redirects to settings (Catalog languages).
8. Translations block language deletion—all of them together
The message gives the total number of product and category translations but does not say which ones. Finding them can be tedious in a large catalog.
You can never delete the default language (Catalog languages).
9. Dragging an attribute to another group changes it in every catalog
In Attributes and groups, you can drag an attribute into another group or No group. The card then shows Group: X → Y. This is not a catalog setting: an attribute group is shared system-wide. After you click Save, the attribute’s group changes in every catalog and on the Attributes screen. The save message says how many attributes changed groups.
The trash icon on an attribute card only unlinks it from this catalog. The attribute stays in the system and in other catalogs. The unlinked attribute disappears from product cards in this catalog.
