Category tree
Hierarchy within a single catalog: the tree on the left, editor on the right; reorder by dragging, move using the Parent category field.
Categories form a tree within one catalog. A category belongs to exactly one catalog, and its code must be unique within that catalog. Two catalogs can have categories with the same code; they are separate categories.
What the screen looks like
Open Catalog → Categories. At the top are a Categories header and a catalog field; the screen always displays one catalog (the first is selected automatically). Below are two columns:
- The tree on the left: search, a + button (new top-level category), an Active / Inactive / All switch, and an expand/collapse all button. Each category shows the product count including subcategories; the count is orange when it is 0. At the bottom is a summary: “N categories · M top-level · K products.”
- The editor on the right for the selected category: breadcrumb path, name (editable directly in the header), code, Subcategory, Show products ↗ buttons, an Active switch, trash, and close. Below the header is a one-line summary (“Category X in A › B, 4 subcategories, 3 products…”); each underlined part opens the tab where it can be changed.
On a narrow screen (phone), only one column is visible at a time: the tree or the editor. The X in the editor returns to the tree.
Step by step: create a category
- Select a catalog in the field at the top.
- To create a top-level category, click + above the tree. To add a subcategory, open its parent and click Subcategory in the header—or, on the Subcategories tab, enter a name in New subcategory name… and click Add (it saves immediately).
- Enter a name in the header. You do not need to enter a code; it is generated from the name (uppercase, without Polish characters, with words separated by hyphens; for example, “Pościel łóżkowa” →
POSCIEL-LOZKOWA). If the code is already used, it gets a-2,-3suffix. Enter a custom code on the Advanced tab. - Click Save. You will see Saved, and the category will appear in the tree.
Reorder by dragging
On the Subcategories tab, grab a row by its handle (six dots) and drag it, or use the ↑ ↓ arrows (the handle also works with the keyboard). The order is saved immediately, without a Save button. This controls order in menus and lists. This screen cannot reorder top-level categories; they have no parent whose tab they could be dragged within.
Move using the Parent category field
Open Advanced → Parent category. Choose a new category from the list (type part of its path), or clear the field to make the category top-level. Click Save. The category moves with its entire branch and products.
What the system will not allow
- The parent category must be in the same catalog; the list shows only those categories.
- You cannot set a category as its own parent or place it under one of its descendants. They are not shown in the list, and the server rejects such a change.
- A template can be linked only to a top-level category (this field is not on the screen; saving a category does not change its assigned template).
- The code must be unique in the catalog; a duplicate produces a message beside Code.
Templates do not stay synchronized
A category template creates a category in a catalog by copying its fields at creation time. After that, there is no link between them; editing a category in one catalog does not change its counterpart in another. A template is a starting point, not a connection.
Deleting a category is conditionally blocked
The trash icon in the header is disabled while the category has subcategories or assigned products (the tooltip explains why). Only active assignments are counted; a category with only inactive assignments is deleted together with them.
